With the big screen adaptation of Steve Alten’s MEG finally coming together after what feels like forever in development hell, the film has now added Rainn Wilson to its cast.
The Office’s Wilson, who genre fans may also recognise from the likes of House of 1,000 Corpses, Juno and Super, will be playing a tech billionaire who funds the underwater observation program that is at the core of the movie.
The current word on the MEG adap is that it will focus on an international underwater program that comes under threat from an ominous and mysterious danger. Unfortunately for the workers based on this facility, they will be stranded at the bottom of the ocean and with a dangerous predator waiting to pounce. Jason Statham will portray a former naval captain who is tasked with rescuing those in danger before it’s too late.
In case you’re not familiar with MEG, Steve Alten’s MEG: A Novel of Deep Terror was released in 1997 and has spawned several follow-ups, with the action focussing on the 80-foot megalodon and the tale often described as “Jurassic Park with a shark” as the California coast is terrorized by this ancient threat.
Rainn Wilson joins a cast that currently includes Jason Statham, Fan Bingbing, Ruby Rose and Jessica McNamee.
To be directed by John Turtletaub, MEG is currently set for a March 2nd, 2018 release.SHARE YOUR COMMENTS BELOW OR ON TWITTER @STARBURST_MAG
