Following on from previous speculation, it’s now been confirmed that Wolverine 3 will indeed be R-rated.

Producer Simon Kinberg confirmed the news to Collider, adding that the film has already started shooting. “I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say about that,” Kinberg said when asked about Hugh Jackman’s final Logan outing, “I will agree with you think Patrick Stewart was rumoured to be a part of that film. It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a Western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film.”

Given how Deadpool achieved huge success earlier this year for 20th Century Fox whilst being rated R and full of strong language, gore, and nudity, it seems as if the studio is now keen to give Jackman’s Wolvie an adult-orientated send-off.

Joining Jackman for what will be his very last outing as the Canucklehead will be Patrick Stewart, Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, Eriq La Salle and Elise Neal. Additionally, it’s believed that X-23 is a character who’ll be making an appearance, too. Plot-wise, there’s still plenty of speculation that the film will be loosely based on Mark Millar’s fan-favourite Old Man Logan comic book arc.

To be directed by The Wolverine’s James Mangold, Wolverine 3 is currently set to him UK cinemas on March 2nd, 2017.
