Given the success of Deadpool, which is currently running roughshod over its competition at the box office, it seems that superhero movies could now be set to embrace the R-rated side of cinema when the need calls for it. And it looks as if the Dark Knight and Man of Steel are following the Merc with a Mouth’s lead.

Courtesy of FilmRatings.com, it’s been confirmed that there will be an R-rated version of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on the way later this year. Whilst the film has been classified as PG-13 for its cinema run, there will be an R-rated cut of Batman v Superman released when the film hits the home release market down the line. In fact, that R-rated cut is being held off for a Blu-ray release titled Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition. The specifics around this cut being rated R is down to “sequences of violence”.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to hit UK cinemas on March 25th. In the meantime, though, be sure to pick up STARBURST #422, on sale now, in which we look ahead to the film’s release.
