Potterheads across the world have teamed up to crowdfund Fly the Movie, a documentary about the UK Quidditch team’s quest to make it to the International Quidditch finals in Frankfurt. The documentary will follow Team UK from early 2016, starting with the British Quidditch Cup, and will cover their training in Durham and Oxford all the way to the Quidditch World Cup in July.

Quidditch is the fictional game played on broomsticks in J.K. Rowling’s enormously popular Harry Potter series. An adaptation of the game that uses mundane broomsticks has become a firm favourite of Potterheads across the world. The non-magical version is a rapid sport that combines different sports such as handball, rugby and dodgeball. A Quidditch team consists of 21 athletes with 7 players per team on the field at any one time. Each player has a broom between their legs. It’s a chaotic game, fuelled by fannish fun and is very physically demanding.

Local teams have fantastic names, such as Manchester Manticores and the Durham Direwolves.

The documentary will be put together by Triple Hoops Productions, a company put together by Quidditch fans Caroline Taylor and Jennie Grimes. You can find out more here
