With his latest effort, The Hateful Eight, hitting UK screens on Friday, Quentin Tarantino has once more talked about his future… including his wish to make a horror movie.

The Hateful Eight will be Tarantino’s eighth feature, and, speaking to Time Out, QT confirmed that he still plans to retire after making his tenth movie, saying, “It usually takes me about three years to make a movie anyway, so you’re talking about almost a decade left. I don’t want to be the guy that’s doing this forever. There should be an end.”

When asked about what the focus of his final two films could be, Tarantino said, “There is not a genre left where I have the same burning desire that I had to do a WWII movie or a martial arts movie. I think maybe the one genre left might be a 1930s gangster movie, that kind of John Dillinger thing. I’m also interested in doing something contemporary, where I can have a character who gets in a car, turns on the radio so I can have a cool driving montage. And if I had all the time in the world, I would love to make a really, really scary horror film, like The Exorcist.”

Throughout his directorial career, Quentin has certainly floated between genres. After all, this is the man who helmed Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill Vol. 1, Kill Bill Vol. 2, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, and now The Hateful Eight.

One long-standing rumour is that Tarantino could do a third Kill Bill movie, and he himself has regularly confirmed that he’s had thoughts of doing that before he calls it a day. So would he have time do an Exorcist-like horror effort? We certainly hope so.
