With the next entry in the main X-franchise, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, now in production, it’s now being speculated that another familiar face may well be returning for this seventh outing for the main X-Men series.

As picked up by Omega Underground and reported by CinemaBlend, it looks like Olivia Munn could be returning as Psylocke. The source of this suggestion is that Munn recently posted a photo on Snapchat of herself in Montreal. What’s so special about that? Well, Montreal just so happens to be where the Dark Phoenix production is currently based. Of course, nothing is confirmed at this stage so take this with a pinch of salt for now.

Time-wise, Dark Phoenix will take place a decade after X-Men: Apocalypse, so it should be interesting to see where the action picks up with our heroes (and villains!). Where Psylocke is concerned, she was last seen as one of Apocalypse’s Four Horsemen alongside Storm, which could be a plot point used to get her back involved this time out.

Already confirmed to return for Dark Phoenix are Michael Fassbender as Magneto, James McAvoy as Professor X, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler. In terms of new faces, Jessica Chastain has been brought in to play the villain of the picture, Lilandra, while Lemar Johnson has landed a to-be-revealed role.

Plot-wise, the film will pull inspiration from the famed Dark Phoenix Saga comic book arc, with Turner’s young Jean being taken over by the all-powerful Phoenix Force. With Lilandra and her Shi-ar Empire on a mission to wipe the Phoenix from existence, she’ll be seen butting heads with our familiar X-faces.

The current plan is for principal photography on X-Men: Dark Phoenix to start this October ahead of a November 2nd, 2018 release. Longtime franchise writer/producer Simon Kinberg is on directing duties, taking over from Bryan Singer.
