Wednesday September 23rd saw the eagerly-awaited Prop Store Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction take place at BFI ODEON IMAX, Waterloo, London and there was plenty of excitement and drama as the event took place, with a global audience glued to the live stream.

With over 450 items going under the hammer, it was an epic occasion that began at 2pm UK time, and finished with the last lot at a little before 1030pm.

Among the bigger sales of the day were, unsurprisingly, some of the Star Wars items, with a Stormtrooper’s helmet from The Empire Strikes Back fetching way above its estimate. The winning bid was a whopping £65, 000. An Ewok mask from Return of the Jedi similarly exceeded expectations, coming under the gavel at £13,000. Even smaller items, such as a set of Lucasfilm Christmas Cards, went crazy when it came time to bid, with the set of three seasonal greetings reaching over six times their reserve at £500.

There was some surprises along the way too, with a puppet of Fizzgig, the little creature from Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal hitting more than double its estimate at £22,500. Even bigger surprises came with items from Luc Besson’s The Fifth Element. From the style guide used during filming (coming in at double the estimate, £200), to a screen-used ZF-1 gun hitting £25,000. It was two small, fairly irrelevant items that really set the bidding alight, however. The Multi-Pass used by Bruce Willis’ Korben Dallas raised £20,000 (from an expected £4,000-6,000) and Milla Jovovich’s Leelo Dallas surpassing even that at £35,000.

Perhaps even more surprising was the fact several high profile items failed to reach their minimum bid. A number of Doctor Who lots went unsold, as did the iconic costume worn by the late Leonard Nimoy in his role of Spock in the 1966 TV series Star Trek, which was expected to hit at least £50,000.
