Whilst there’s a little bit of uncertainty as to just when Marvel’s The Punisher will premiere, now comes word that the show has already started shooting.

Production has now started in New York on the Jon Bernthal-starrer, with Bernthal spotted on set with a big ol’ beard (as shown in the accompanying picture).

All that’s known on The Punisher at this stage is that Bernthal will be back as Frank Castle, and he’ll be joined by The Chronicles of Narnia’s Ben Barnes in a mystery role. Recent speculation suggests that Barnes may actually be playing Bobby Saint, a character who was created especially for 2004’s Thomas Jane-starring The Punisher. Hannibal and Narcos’ Steve Lightfoot will be serving as executive producer and showrunner on the series.

Bernthal’s Castle debuted earlier this year in the second season of Marvel’s Daredevil. As well as getting his own Netflix-exclusive series, it’s believed that The Punisher will also have a part to play when Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage, and Finn Jones’ Iron Fist come together in the Marvel’s The Defenders mini-series.

As mentioned, it’s not currently known just when Marvel’s The Punisher will debut, with initial word suggesting that the show won’t arrive until at least 2018, although a recent leaked image suggested that the series could debut on Netflix at some point in 2017.
