In some truly sad news, veteran genre actor Powers Boothe has passed away at the age of 68.

Boothe’s publicist confirmed the news following an earlier tweet from the actor’s friend Beau Bridges, revealing that this longtime favourite of many genre fans passed away from natural causes on Sunday at his Los Angeles home.

In more recent years, Boothe famously appeared as Senator Roark in both Sin City and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, plus as Gideon Malick in Avengers Assemble and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., not to mention for lending his vocals to Gorilla Grodd in various DC animated efforts. Previously, Boothe won plenty of plaudits for the likes of Deadwood, Nashville, Tombstone, 24, Hatfields & McCoys, and Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones – for which he won an Emmy in 1980.

The thoughts of all here at STARBURST go out to the family, friends and fans of Powers Boothe. Rest in peace, sir.
