Earlier in the week came news that the upcoming Power Rangers movie had begun testing actors for its titular team. Well now comes the film’s first confirmed cast member.

As revealed on the movie’s official Instagram page, The Martian’s Naomi Scott has nabbed the role of Kimberly, better known as the Pink Ranger. The earlier report claimed that Scott’s main competition for the gig was Insidious: Chapter 3’s Stephanie Scott.

Where the other roles are concerned, it’s believed that the Jason/Red Ranger role has Arrow’s Austin Butler, Descendant’s Mitchell Hope and Shortland Street’s KJ Apa fighting for it, whilst It Follows’ Daniel Zovatto, Major Crimes’ Brian Marc and Chasing Life’s Ross Butler have all tested for the Zack/Black Ranger role.

Whilst young, upcoming talent is clearly being looked at for the Power Rangers themselves, it’s believed that some bigger names are also wanted for the role of the film’s villains.

To be directed by Project Almanac’s Dean Israelite, Power Rangers is currently set for a January 13th, 2017 release.
