Lionsgate’s Power Rangers movie seems to be steeping up a gear at this point, with Variety reporting that the upcoming film has now started to look at young actors to take on roles in the titular team.

To be more specific, the Red Ranger/Jason role has Arrow’s Austin Butler, Descendants’ Mitchell Hope and Shortland Street’s KJ Apa in the frame. As for the Black Ranger/Zack, It Follows’ Daniel Zovatto, Major Crimes’ Brian Marc and Chasing Life’s Ross Butler are currently testing for the role. And finally, testing for the Pink Ranger/Kimberly gig are The Martian’s Naomi Scott and Insidious: Chapter 3’s Stephanie Scott.

Whilst young, upcoming talent are clearly being looked at for the Power Rangers themselves, it’s believed that some bigger names are wanted for the role of the film’s villains.

To be directed by Project Almanac’s Dean Israelite, Power Rangers is currently set for a January 13th, 2017 release.
