A full two-minute trailer for Robert Zemeckis’ Pinocchio remake has been released, showcasing a rather creepy wooden boy come to life (voiced by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) and lending glimpses of the supporting cast of characters – among them Geppetto (Tom Hanks), Jiminy Cricket (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Honest John (Keegan-Michael Key) and the Blue Fairy (Cynthia Erivo).

Also in the cast are Lorraine Bracco as Sofia the Seagull, a new character, Luke Evans as the Coachman, Kyanne Lamaya as Fabiana, Jaquita Ta’Le as Fabiana’s marionette Sabina, Giuseppe Battiston as Stromboli, and Lewin Lloyd as Lampwick.

The upcoming feature chronicles the entire story we already saw in the 1940 animated film, from Geppetto building Pinocchio, to the Blue Fairy turning him into a ‘real boy’ and the ensuing adventures, mischief, and trouble.

If the trailer has left you feeling like this maybe isn’t your cup of tea, we remind you that Guillermo del Toro has also filmed his own take on Pinocchio, which is billed as a ‘darker’ reimagining of the children’s story and is brought to life entirely in stop-motion. Del Toro’s Netflix Original will release in cinemas sometime in November, ahead of a December drop to the streaming service.

Meanwhile, Robert Zemeckis’ Pinocchio releases on Disney+ from September 8th. Watch the trailer below:
