Whilst we’re all giddy at the prospect of Game of Thrones returning to our screens in a matter of weeks, now comes an update on another George R.R. Martin property.

As per Deadline, Martin’s eerie Nightflyers novella is continuing to develop as a TV series. Earlier this year saw word that Syfy was tentatively looking to develop a show based around this work, and now comes an update to say that the network has officially ordered a pilot for Nightflyers. At this stage, a writers room is being established to plan out scripts for a potential series order.

The synopsis for Nightflyers reads:

In the hope of making contact with alien life, eight maverick scientists and a powerful telepath embark on an expedition to the edge of our solar system aboard the Nightflyer, a ship with a small, tightknit crew and a reclusive captain. But when terrifying and violent events begin to take place, they start to question one another – and surviving the journey proves harder than anyone thought.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Nightflyers has been adapted, with the property previously being turned in to a 1987 feature film.
