Whilst FX’s mutant-driven Legion is set to premiere next month, FOX has moved to put the pilot for their still-to-be-titled X-Men series into production.

Now, it’s already been revealed that Legion won’t be tying in to the greater cinematic X-Men world, but that’s where FOX’s upcoming series is different – for that will tie in with the X-Men movie franchise that began back in 2000.

For this currently-untitled new show, Bryan Singer will be serving as executive producer alongside Simon Kinberg, Lauren Shuler Donner, Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory. Burn Notice’s Matt Nix is another on board as an executive producer, and he’ll also be writing the show.

The current word on FOX’s X-show is that it will focus on two ordinary parents who discover their children have mutant powers. Going on the run from the government, the family ends up joining with an underground group of mutants as they battle to survive in a hostile world.

How exactly this new show fits in with the cinematic franchise remains to be seen. It could be as simple as the show merely existing within that world and making the odd reference to it, much like how Marvel’s Netflix shows such as Daredevil and Jessica Jones exist within the confines on the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe. On the other hand, it could be that FOX’s new series may actually feature appearances from a familiar X-face or two.

Expect to be hearing a whole lot more on this to-be-titled show over the next few months. In the meantime, the other mutant-centric show, FX’s Legion, will premiere on February 8th. That show centres on Dan Stevens’ David Haller, the troubled son of Charles Xavier who is initially diagnosed as being schizophrenic yet the voices in his head may be a lot more real than first thought.
