Having left a sizable imprint on pop culture after creating gaming’s poster boy Mario, Shigeru Miyamoto has set his sights on the lucrative film industry.

Based on the beloved PIKMIN franchise, and prompted by the fact that there was still more to be seen, Miyamoto has produced several short films under the umbrella term PIKMIN SHORT MOVIE, which includes THE NIGHT JUICER, TREASURE IN A BOTTLE and OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS.

Having debuted several shorts at Tokyo film festival, Miyamoto revealed that they’ll be available to view on the Nintendo 3DS via an upcoming video app. It’s unclear which regions the app will be made available.

Despite having worked on 20-30 shorts, the gaming guru assures fans he hasn’t left the medium behind. Speaking to The Guardian, Miyamoto said ‘I haven’t moved over, but as computer graphics have gotten better, I started to feel it was something I could get involved with. Making films in the past was something that was made with a completely different skillset but now I feel it’s rather similar.
