2024 gets off to a cracking start, as the line-up for this year’s Glasgow edition of Pigeon Shrine FrightFest has been unveiled. Taking place on March 8th and 9th, with a gala screening on the 7th, this will be the 19th time the eagerly-awaited event has been held as part of the annual Glasgow Film Festival.

FrightFest co-director Alan Jones says, “We live in amazing times of change in the delivery of the audio-visual experience, but festivals like the GFF and FrightFest remain constant and committed to bringing all of these advances together for lively debate because the magic of cinema knows no boundaries”.

You’ll Never Find Me

Kicking things off on Thursday, March 7th, is a special screening of You’ll Never Find Me, the directorial debut from the Australian duo Josiah Allen and Indianna Bell. (This presentation is separate to the full FrightFest pass.)

The event itself starts on Friday, March 8th, at 1pm with the UK premiere of The Soul Eater, the latest from co-directors Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (Inside). Next up is the UK premiere of Mathieu Turi’s The Deep Dark. There are more UK premieres after that with Mike Hermosa’s The Invisible Raptor and Wake Up, from RKSS, the collective behind the cult hits Turbo Kid and Summer of ’84. Friday night climaxes in bloody style with Alix Austin and Keir Siewert’s body horror Kill Your Lover.

The Deep Dark

Saturday’s thrills open with the world premiere of Mom, directed by Adam O’Brien and starring Emily Hampshire (Schitt’s Creek), next is the Scottish premiere of The Funeral from Turkish director Orcun Behram. There’s another world first with Tiago Teixeira’s Custom, starring Abigail Hardingham. More UK premieres follow with Tulpa director Federico Zampaglione’s extreme gorefest The Well and folk horror All You Need is Death, helmed by Paul Duane. Closing the festival is Alan Scott Neal’s debut, Last Straw.

The Funeral

There are also premieres of two shorts from emerging Scottish filmmakers. Mouse, from Ewan J. Fletcher, and Reiff Gaskell’s Subject 73.

Passes are on sale from noon on Friday, January 19th and are valid for the FrightFest films on March 8th and 9th only. Tickets for the Thursday night film and individual tickets will be on sale from Monday, January 29th from noon.
