In some rather surprising news, Disney’s currently-in-production Han Solo movie is now back on the hunt for a director.

The LEGO Movie’s Phil Lord and Chris Miller have long been on board to helm the project, but it’s now been revealed that the duo have departed the picture due to the ever familiar “creative differences”.

In a statement on StarWars.com, Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy explained, “Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew, but it’s become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we’ve decided to part ways. A new director will be announced soon.”

From Lord and Miller’s point, they added, “Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project. We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences’ but for once this cliché is true. We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew.”

Still to be titled, this Han-driven movie will look at how Solo became the loveable scoundrel who we were all first introduced to in Mos Eisley back in 1977. On board as the young scruffy-looking nerf-herder is Alden Ehrenreich, with Donald Glover playing Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson as a mentor figure called Beckett, The Force Awakens’ Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, and unknown roles for Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Michael K. Williams, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

At present, the film is still booked in for a May 25th, 2018 release.

Interestingly, it’s being rumoured elsewhere that Lord and Miller have already met with Warner Brothers to discuss directing The Flash. Previously, the pair put together a script treatment when Seth Grahame-Smith was on board to direct. Grahame-Smith then left the project, as did his replacement Rick Famuyiwa. Could it now be that Lord and Miller could be getting set to tackle Ezra Miller’s Scarlet Speedster?

Expect more on all of this as it develops.
