Mia Goth, who played the villain Pearl in Ti West’s porno shoot-turned-slaughter horror X, is back for an origins story, which West directs and co-writes alongside Goth. The trailer has just been released ahead of a September 16th, 2022 U.S. premiere. 

In this prequel film which West secretly filmed in parallel to X, Pearl is trapped on her family’s isolated farm and forced to tend to her ailing father, under her devout mother’s bitter and overbearing watch. Lusting for a glamorous life like she’s seen in the movies, Pearl’s ambitions, temptations, and repressions all collide in a stunning, technicolour-inspired origin story of X’s slasher villain.

David Corenswet, Tandi Wright, Matthew Sunderland, and Emma Jenkins-Purro also star.

West announced in March 2022 that he was currently working on the script for a third movie in the film series, which will be set after the events of X. The project will explore another sub-genre of horror while continuing with the series’ depictions of cinema’s influence on society, this time exploring the impact made by the rise of home video releases.
