STARBURST is saddened to hear that television and film legend Patrick Macnee has passed away, aged 93.

He was best known for his portrayal of John Steed in British telefantasy institution The Avengers, becoming a familiar face on screen for decades to come.

Born Daniel Patrick Macnee, he began acting at Summerfields Preparatory School, where he appeared, aged 11, in Henry V, with Sir Christopher Lee alongside him in the role of the Dauphin. Sir Christopher, of course, passed himself just two weeks ago.

As well as The Avengers (and the ‘70s follow-up The New Avengers), Patrick was regularly seen in stage plays and in film and TV roles. He was particularly memorable in Joe Dante’s The Howling (1981) and as the record executive Sir Denis in This is Spinal Tap (1984). His typical Britishness was unmistakable.
His son, Rupert, announced his father’s death earlier today and requests that donations in his father’s name should be made to The Actors’ Fund.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
