Andy Serkis in Talks to Direct VENOM 2

Andy Serkis

Having experienced his own fair share of split personality action with his time as Smeagol and Gollum, Andy Serkis could be about to step behind the camera to tackle another character with his own personal personality issues.

Courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, Serkis is believed to be in talks with Sony Pictures over directing Venom 2. Since trying his hand at directing, Serkis is notable for helming Mowgli: Legend of The Jungle Book, Breathe and as a second unit director on Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy.

The outlet reports that Serkis was in Los Angeles this past week for face-to-face talks about tackling the Venom sequel. Despite this, there are other directors in the conversation with it comes to who will be in the director’s chair for the second outing for Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock. Venom director Ruben Fleischer will not be returning, hence why other names are now being looked at.

Currently, Sony has tentative plans to start filming Venom 2 this November ahead of an October 2020 release.

Nick Castle Back for More HALLOWEEN; Tommy Doyle Rumoured

Paul Rudd Tommy Doyle

With two more Halloween movies – Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends – now announced for respective 2020 and 2021 releases, now comes an update on those films.

Firstly, Nick Castle has confirmed that he’ll be back to play Michael Myers in those two pictures – and Castle also added that James Jude Courtney will be back to tackle the more physical side of The Shape.

Elsewhere, the ever-reliable Sneider Cut podcast is reporting that the current plan is to bring Tommy Doyle back for Halloween Kills. If you remember, Tommy was one of the two youngsters that Laurie Strode was tasked with babysitting during Michael’s rampage in John Carpenter’s 1978 Halloween.

Played by Brian Andrews in that first Halloween movie, the Tommy character would turn up as a key part of Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers in 1995. There, Tommy was played by a young up-and-comer called Paul Rudd.

Of course, last year’s Halloween ignored any of the films since that ’78 film, meaning anybody with hopes of Rudd reprising the role will likely end up disappointed. That said, Rudd has regularly championed his time in Haddonfield in The Curse of Michael Myers, so you never know…

One story out there right now is that Rudd has actually been offered the chance to take on the Tommy Doyle role again, but his commitment to Jason Reitman’s upcoming new Ghostbusters film is said to be a major spanner in the works in terms of scheduling.

Expect more on both Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends as we get it.

James Wan Directing I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER Series

i know what you did last summer

With Scream’s time on the small screen having now finally come to an end, it looks like it’s the time for another ‘90s horror property to get the TV treatment.

Courtesy of Deadline, modern horror icon James Wan is directing the pilot for an I Know What You Did Last Summer TV series. Neal H. Moritz is producing the series as part of this three-year deal with Sony Pictures Television.

The show is being developed at Amazon, with John Wick: Chapter 3’s Shay Hatten penning the pilot.

Back in that 1997 movie, I Know What You Did Last Summer gave audiences a film that saw a group of four friends stalked by a hooded, hook-wielding fisherman who they had accidentally killed a year prior. Jennifer Love Hewitt headed up the cast, with Freddie Prinze Jr., Ryan Phillippe and Sarah Michelle Gellar fleshing out the core ensemble.

That picture would spawn two sequels – I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer – and there has been took for the past several years of something happening with the property.

Expect more on this I Know What You Did Last Summer TV series as it continues to develop.

WALKING AGAINST THE RAIN Launches Stretch Goals

Walking Against the Rain

With the Kickstarter campaign currently underway for award-winning British filmmaker Scott Lyus’ feature film debut, biblical horror Walking Against the Rain, now comes an update on the stretch goals for the project ahead of the campaign coming to a close next Wednesday.

Walking Against the Rain

Having impressed many with Silently Within Your Shadow and Echoes of the Passed – not to mention anticipation being high for this year’s Black Mass – Lyus has certainly marked himself out as someone to keep an eye on, and anticipation is high for something special from Walking Against the Rain.

The latest official update on the project from Crossroad Pictures and Kabal Productions reads:

Horror fans, the end of the world is upon us…

Crossroad Pictures, in association with Kobal Productions, are currently running a Kickstarter campaign for their debut feature film WALKING AGAINST THE RAIN.

A horror movie set 6 months after a biblical plague has fallen upon the world, the film tells the story of two strangers navigating their way across a barren landscape in a desperate attempt to find each other, with their only form of communication two soon-to-die battery operated radio mics; all while trying to avoid a brand new evil – The Forsaken.

From award winning filmmakers Scott Lyus and Chris Nials, the film promises to be their most ambitious project to date, having created several successful short films, including Silently Within Your Shadow, Echoes of the Passed and this years, Black Mass, the time to bring their first feature film to life could not be more perfect as Lyus explains:

“Walking Against the Rain is the film we’ve been working towards for several years now. We’ve been extremely lucky to build an amazing supportive fan base ever since we broke onto the festival scene with Silently Within Your Shadow, and due to this amazing support we have been able to go bigger and better with each film that followed and now we aim to break into the feature film scene with our biblical horror tale that dives deep into grief, loss and the importance of human connection.”

The film will be written and directed by Lyus and produced by both Lyus and Nials, with an award winning team once again joining them to help realise their terrifying vision, including BAFTA nominated effects guru Kristyan Mallet and his KM Effects team bringing the films monsters The Forsaken to life; as well as a MAJOR record company in talks to provide a unique and captivating soundtrack.

Walking Against the Rain stars Reece Douglas of Waterloo Road and horror hit Cruel Summer fame as the films lead Tommy, with the films monsters, The Forsaken, being brought to life by monster make-up favourite James Swanton, who has had star appearances in horror hits Double Date, Frankenstein’s Creature, as well as bringing Darkness to life in Black Mass.

With their last effort Black Mass a runaway success on Kickstarter, and Walking Against the Rain smashing its goal in just over two weeks, this team is one to watch. Having now launched their stretch goals and heading into their final week on Kickstarter, it’s now or never to join the team of this original and mind-blowing horror film.

And with an award winning cast and crew behind it, a major soundtrack deal in the works and a strong theme of grief, loss and human connection at its core, this is one horror project you will want to be a part of. Horror fans take notice.

The crowdfunding campaign for Walking Against the Rain will conclude on Wednesday, July 31st – and you can find full details on Kickstarter.

Official Plot Synopsis for THE WALKING DEAD – SEASON 10

The Walking Dead Thora Birch

Ahead of The Walking Dead’s tenth season premiering this October, AMC has now revealed the official synopsis for this new season – and also given a first look at American Beauty’s Thora Birch as a Whisperer named Gamma.

The official blurb on Season 10 reads:

The Walking Dead is a story that started 10 years ago with one man trying to find his family. That family grew and gradually communities took shape. They fought and survived, thrived and gave birth to a new generation. It is a tale of humankind and there are more stories to tell.

It is now Spring, a few months after the end of Season 9, when our group of survivors dared to cross into Whisperer territory during the harsh winter. The collected communities are still dealing with the after effects of Alpha’s horrific display of power, reluctantly respecting the new borderlines being imposed on them, all while organizing themselves into a militia-style fighting force, preparing for a battle that may be unavoidable.

But the Whisperers are a threat unlike any they have ever faced. Backed by a massive horde of the dead it is seemingly a fight they cannot win. The question of what to do and the fear it breeds will infect the communities and give rise to paranoia, propaganda, secret agendas, and infighting that will test them as individuals and as a society. The very idea of whether civilization can survive in a world filled with the dead hangs in the balance.

The Walking Dead returns to life on Sunday, October 6th.

New Disney+ Details Emerge; THE MANDALORIAN Set for November Premiere

Star Wars

While all of the recent Disney+ talk may have been about the plentiful new Marvel-driven projects landing on the upcoming new streaming service, now comes an update on all offerings of a galaxy far, far away variety.

Via CNET, Jon Favreau’s live-action The Mandalorian will be available on Disney+’s launch date of November 12th. To date, this is arguably the most hotly anticipated Disney+ project as Pedro Pascal takes centre-stage as the titular bounty hunter.

Also debuting at that point will be Marvel’s Hero Project. If you remember, that’s a documentary series that turns the spotlight on real life young heroes who are making a difference in their own communities.

From the get-go, Marvel Cinematic Universe efforts such as Captain Marvel and Iron Man 3 will be available, as will The Force Awakens and Rogue One. Other MCU and Star Wars movies will be added over time – most notably Avengers: Endgame landing on Disney+ on December 11th.

After that, early 2020 will see the Marvel 616 series premiere. That show will look at the historical and cultural context of the some of the heroes, villains and stories of the Marvel Universe. Within the first year of its launch, Disney+ will also serve up brand new episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the live-action Cassian Andor series, and the Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan-starring The Falcon and The Winter Soldier show.

Expect more on Disney+ as we get it.

A New HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TV Series is in Development

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

A new take on Douglas Adams’ iconic The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is on the way over at Hulu.

Deadline revealed the news, with Lost’s Carlton Cuse and Wonder Woman’s Jason Fuchs to executive produce and write a new TV adaptation of the legendary 1978 novel. No further details at all are known on the series at this early stage.

This isn’t the first time The Hitchhiker’s Guide has been adapted, of course, as the property has previously made its way to radio, to TV, and famously to the big screen in 2005 with a Martin Freeman-starring movie.

If you’re not familiar with The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, the crux of the story centres on Arthur Dent, a regular fella who just about manages to survive the destruction of Earth and who now finds himself travelling through the universe with his alien BFF Ford Prefect.

Expect more on this new take on The Hitchhiker’s Guide as it develops.
