Last month saw some uncertainty placed on the much-discussed Pacific Rim sequel, but all is apparently still well with the follow up to Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 movie.

The cause of the recent uncertainty was down to Legendary removing Pacific Rim 2 from its upcoming schedule, but Universal Pictures has now moved to clarify the situation.

In a statement, the studio says, “Legendary’s Pacific Rim 2, originally scheduled for release on August 4, 2017, will be redated at a later time. The filmmakers, Legendary and Universal Pictures are committed to having Pacific Rim 2, the sequel to 2013’s Pacific Rim, which generated more than $311 million at the global box office, be the vanguard, fully-immersive experience that the franchise deserves. To this end, the decision was made to delay the production and release of Pacific Rim so that the creative team can continue in its efforts to exceed the amazing experience of the first film.”

Moving in to take the date originally reserved for Pacific Rim 2 will be Pitch Perfect 3 – yes, there’s a third one of those on the way.

So there you have it, a Pacific Rim sequel is still happening, although we’ll have to wait for a new release date to be revealed. What we do know about Pacific Rim 2 is that del Toro has worked on the script with Prometheus’ Jon Spaihts and Travis Beacham.
