The long-mooted Pacific Rim sequel has now found itself a writer.

The Hollywood Reporter has word that Jurassic World’s Derek Connolly has been brought on board to pen the screenplay for the upcoming Pacific Rim 2. As well as having worked on the script for Jurassic World, Connolly has also put the screenplay together for the upcoming Kong: Skull Island, which is also to be put out by Legendary, the same company behind Pacific Rim 2.

A previous draft screenplay from Zak Penn was already in place for the Pacific Rim sequel, although it’s not known whether Connolly will be merely doing a spruce up of that script or if he’ll be starting from scratch.

There’s no concrete plot details known for Pacific Rim 2 at this stage, but we do know that Steven S. DeKnight, who served as showrunner on the first season of Marvel’s Daredevil, will be making his directorial debut for the sequel.

Pacific Rim 2 was initially planned for an April 2017 release before being pushed back to August 2017, although the film now has no set release date after it was completely pulled from the upcoming slate of Universal/Legendary.
