Last year’s Ouija was a film that many had high hopes for but one that ultimately disappointed. So, of course, there’s now a sequel on the way.
The Hollywood Reporter has word that the follow-up has already found a director and star. In some encouraging news, Oculus’ Mike Flanagan will be directing, and he’s already penning the sequel’s script with Oculus co-writer Jeff Howard.
Annalise Basso, who appeared in Oculus as the younger version of Karen Gillan’s character, has been signed up as the lead in Ouija 2. The only information given on Basso’s character at this stage is that her father has died, with her presumably using the titular Ouija board to try and connect with him.
Whilst the first film was a major let down to many fans and critics, it did happen to take $102.5 million from a budget of just $5 million, hence the swift move to greenlight a sequel.
Ouija 2 has been pencilled in for an October 21st, 2016 release.
