They say no-one ever really dies in science fiction, and it seems that’s even more true when Steven Moffat’s involved.

After dying at the hands of the Master in series eight finale Death in Heaven, Ingrid Oliver’s Osgood – the UNIT scientist with a fannish admiration for the Doctor – will be the latest graduate of the Rory Williams School of Resurrection as she returns to Doctor Who for the seventh and eighth episodes of Series 9, the BBC have announced.

Also back are the nasty shape-shifting Zygons. Let’s not forget that, back in 2013, Osgood’s Zygon duplicate survived the events of fiftieth anniversary special The Day of the Doctor – could loose ends from that story be the key to her resurrection?

Steven Moffat, lead writer, said, “Osgood is back, fresh from her recent murder at the end of last series. We recently confirmed that Osgood was definitely dead and not returning – but in a show about time travel, anything can happen. The brilliant Ingrid Oliver is back in action. This time though, can the Doctor trust his number one fan?”

The two episodes, currently filming in Cardiff, come from Peter Harness (writer of last year’s Kill the Moon) and also star Jemma Redgrave’s Kate Stewart, plus Jaye Griffiths, Cleopatra Dickens, Sasha Dickens, Abhishek Singh, Todd Kramer, Jill Winternitz, Nicholas Asbury, Jack Parker and Aidan Cook.

And, of course, Peter Capaldi as the Doctor and Jenna Coleman as Clara. Doctor Who Series 9 will begin on BBC One in Autumn 2015.
