Cryptozoic Entertainment’s campaign to crowdfund an official GHOSTBUSTERS board game has reached its goal in only two days. The campaign is now to add extra components to the game.

These days it’s not acceptable to simply slap some artwork on a board and throw in some dice; modern games have to be well designed and visually interesting. Cryptozoic have gone all out for the GHOSTBUSTERS THE BOARD GAME drafting in VS SYSTEM games designer Matt Hyra.

The designs for the plastic game pieces and game artwork are being produced by GHOSTBUSTERS comic artist Dan Schoening, and they will closely resemble the IDW comic strip. This means that in addition to all the ghosts from the movie, we can also expect to see spectral horrors from the cartoons, comics, and toy lines.

This four player game lets you pick a Ghostbuster (Peter, Egon, Winston, Ray), each with special traits and abilities, then select one of the game scenarios, which can last from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the scenario and difficulty level chosen. The game has a campaign mode, meaning you can level up your crew as you progress.

The game contains 47 custom (32-50mm) plastic models,  10 double-sided game board tiles, 6 dice (5 D6 & 1 D8),  43 Tokens (Streams, Slimes, Gates, XP Trackers), a PKE Meter, 4 player cards, 6 ghost cards, and a Ghostbusters Operations & Field Manual.

Other pieces will be added as the kickstarter campaign reaches various stretch goals. This has so far meant extra ghosts (ECTO-1, Vince Clortho and Zuul have been added so far.) As the game is inspired by the comics, could it be that an extra four player pieces will be added in the form of the (well established) all-woman team from the comic books? We’ll just have to wait and see.
