The first teaser trailer for Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu has finally released, giving fans their first glimpse at the auteur filmmaker’s dark new take on Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

The horror film stars Bill Skarsgard as Count Orlok (aka the Nosferatu, or Dracula), along with Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Simon McBurney, and Willem Dafoe and Ralph Ineson. As writes Focus Features, Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession, set in 19th-century Germany, between a haunted young woman (Depp) and the terrifying vampire (Skarsgard) infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.” The teaser smartly keeps Skarsgard’s version of Nosferatu under wraps for now, but it does let slip some chilling glimpses.

Eggers previously promised that his fourth film – having previously directed  The WitchThe Lighthouse, and The Northman, – would deliver on the scare-factor. “There hasn’t been an old-school gothic movie that’s actually scary in a while. And I think that the majority of audiences will find this one to be the case.”

Following Werner Herzog’s Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979), it is the second remake of the 1922 silent film written by Henrik Galeen and directed by F. W. Murnau, which in turn is an unauthorised adaptation of Stoker’s Dracula.

Watch below for the Nosferatu teaser trailer. The film will release in cinemas from December 25th in the US, and January 1st, 2025 in the UK.
