We all know the routine by now. A major character is 'killed' in the comic book world, only for that character to be miraculously resurrected with a brand new issue No#1 when the latest movie is about to land. Well Marvel have decided to buck that trend with a promise that neither the Steve
Rogers’ Captain America nor the traditional male Thor will be relaunched in time for next year's AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON movie.
THOR #1, out today, presents a female goddess of thunder after Thor Odinson is declared unworthy to wield Mjolnir, and November sees Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon, pick up Cap's shield in ALL-NEW CAPTAIN AMERICA #1.
The current Thunder God chronicler, Jason Aaron, had this to say to The Wall Street Journal.
I've been writing for two years, and I don't plan on going anywhere any time soon. Anyone who's been reading my stuff can see that there's a lot of tracks being laid for future stories. I've been writing for the long term this whole time. So this is not a short-term story for me.
I initially had the same concerns when we started talking about this. This was my idea to do this change. I knew we were coming up on the big, new Avengers film next year, so I just wanted to make sure everybody realised we were on the same page, that we'd be going into that film with different versions of and Thor in our books than we see in the movies, and everybody was totally cool with that.
I wouldn't have wanted to do it otherwise. I wouldn't have wanted to do it as a five, six-issue story, and then she goes away and the regular guy is back. It's not that kind of story."
Whilst Steve Rogers and the familiar male Thor will not be getting much comic book love in the near future, they will both be back on the big screen in Joss Whedon’s AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, set for an April 24th UK release.
