With X-MEN: APOCALYPSE to act as a follow-up to last year’s X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, now comes news that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen will not be appearing in the next X-movie. The two are famous for playing Professor X and Magneto, respectively, in the series.

Speaking to Larry King, Stewart confirmed the news before adding, “I was learning quite a lot more about it last night. It is going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of all of our characters. And so I don’t think we’ll be making an appearance.”

Of course, things could change or the pair could even end up making a small cameo similar to the post-credits scene in THE WOLVERINE. Despite Stewart and McKellen apparently being absent, Professor X and Magneto will be present, with James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender returning as the younger versions of Charles and Erik, respectively.

Whilst Stewart made reference to the earlier lives of certain characters, it was only last week that news emerged on which names are up to play the younger versions of Jean Grey, Cyclops and Storm in the film.

To be directed by Bryan Singer, X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is currently set for a May 27th, 2016 release.
