Following the news that The Get Down’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is being lined up to play the villainous Black Manta in James Wan’s Aquaman, now comes word that Nicole Kidman is in talks for a role in the film.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Kidman is in negotiations to play Atlanna, the mother of Jason Momoa’s titular hero. This isn’t the first time that Kidman has been linked with Warner Brothers’ DCEU, with the actress previously rumoured to play Hippolyta in Wonder Woman before Connie Nielsen ended up with that role.

The character of Atlanna debuted back in 1959’s Adventure Comics #260, initially depicted as an Atlantean that fell in love with a human known as Tom Curry. In more modern times, though, her story has shifted a little as The New 52 saw her positioned as an Atlantean who faked her own death in order to escape the oppression of her home kingdom.

If Kidman does indeed sign on to join Aquaman, she’ll join Momoa’s King of Atlantis, Amber Heard’s Mera, and Willem Dafoe’s Vulko.

Due to start shooting in April, Aquaman is currently set for an October 2018 release, although Momoa’s Marine Marvel will be next seen in this November’s Justice League.
