With recent news finally confirming that the next Friday the 13th movie will not be a found footage film, now comes word that it also will not be a sequel to the 2009 Friday the 13th reboot.

Hannibal scribe Nick Antosca is helping to develop this next Jason Voorhees movie, and he was asked on Twitter whether this new film will be a sequel to ‘09’s Derek Mears-starrer. His response read, “It’s not a sequel to the 2009 version. Different characters, time period, style.”

So what could Antosca possibly mean? We guess that there’s one argument to say that some of the entries in the series already don’t feel like direct sequels to their predecessors in terms of continuity, so it wouldn’t be a first for the series to essentially just throw a story together that didn’t have any bearing on previous movies bar featuring Jason and being set at Crystal Lake.

David Bruckner is on board to direct this next Friday the 13th, which is currently set for a March 13th, 2016 release.

As ever, expect more on Jason’s next outing as we get it.
