Not to be outdone by his dad*, author Joe Hill today also had some good news regarding the adaptation of one of his own properties…

TWITTERING FROM THE CIRCUS OF THE DEAD is a short story from zombie anthology ‘The New Dead’, and is told entirely in the form of a young girl’s Tweets as she accompanies her family on a nightmarish road trip where they encounter a ‘zombie circus’. Don’t know about you guys, but I need to read this right away! Mandalay pictures today announced it had acquired the movie rights and have tasked Christopher Borrelli to pen the screenplay with Todd Lincoln taking directing duties (yeah, me neither.)

However… in regards to a movie version, one problem comes to mind right off the bat – surely a film version ruins the central gimmick? It’s bad enough having to sit with an audience full of teenagers tapping away on their iPhones, having the on-screen protagonist doing the same for an hour and a half doesn’t sound like much fun to me. Great idea for a short story, not convinced it’s going to translate well to film. Unless they dump the Tweet angle. In which case, why buy the rights at all? We shall see.

We’ll of course keep you abreast of any developments as they happen.

Any Starburst readers out there read Hill’s short? Is this adaptable? Let us know with your comments below!
