Did we really think Lucas was going to be able to resist making additions to his films while prepping them for the upcoming Blu-ray release? Did we ‘eck. Are we surprised that he’s replaced the puppet Yoda from THE PHANTOM MENACE with the CGI version from CLONES and SITH? Not really. Because let’s face it – it was rubbish.

Now I’m as surprised as anyone to hear myself say that – I’ve NEVER advocated CGI over practical effects, but the design of that Yoda puppet in MENACE always looked off to me. He walked funny, he wasn’t the right shade of green, and he was also alarmingly cross-eyed in some scenes. At least there will now be a little more uniformity in the character across the three prequels.

Not that I even like the CGI Yoda either! Don’t get me wrong, they might as well have slapped the Yoda from LEGO STAR WARS in there it was that unrealistic. And while we’re on the subject, didn’t you find him to be a little smug in the prequels, or is that just me? What happened to the Yoda of old? Scrapping with R2, lying his little arse off, giggling to himself like a loon? Prequel Yoda was a pompous fool, puppet or no puppet.

Anyway.

Let’s face, once Han shot first we were through the looking glass. Nothing George Lucas could do can really shock us anymore. Unless that CGI Yoda creeps his way in to EMPIRE and JEDI.

Nah. Lucas would never go that far.

…Could he?

We’ll all find out on September 12th when we’ll all rush out and buy them all over again. Don’t pretend you won’t!

Should Lucas be tinkering with sub-par puppet Yoda? Is there any tweaks to the old movies you DO like? And let’s find out who amongst you owns the most copies of the STAR WARS trilogy on home video! Drop your thoughts in the Comments below, or on Twitter @Starburst_Mag
