* NECA TOYS have snagged the license to produce action figures and collectibles based on the works of video game giants VALVE, with PORTAL; HALF LIFE; and LEFT FOR DEAD toys all on the way! Yay!

* MGM have surprised everybody by hiring Pultizer Prize-winner David Lindsay-Abaire (RABBIT HOLE) to pen their upcoming POLTERGEIST remake.

* Ryan Reynold’s has been talking up the DEADPOOL movie again. Pimping GREEN LANTERN recently, he said: “In order to do this movie the way we want to do it is pretty nasty, and pretty hard. You can’t exactly have a $200 million budget when you want to do a movie like this.” Encouraging indeed – as long as they steer clear of the Deadpool incarnation we saw at the end of the dreadful X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE.

* Following on from this week’s ASTEROIDS news comes the announcement that Sony’s big-screen adaptation of the classic board game RISK is finally marching forward. Writer John Hlavin (the upcoming UNDERWORLD: NEW DAWN) has been hired to pen the screenplay. Good luck!

* Fans of SHAUN OF THE DEAD and HOT FUZZ rejoice! Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright have finally begun writing the third film in their self-coined ‘Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy’. The guys are sticking with their previously announced working title WORLD’S END for the time being, and are continuing to remain schtum on any plot details. What genre would you like to see the creators tackle next?

* Daredevil’s all over the the place this week – first came the news that he’ll be returning to the big-screen, now it’s being reported that he will officially be joining the roster of THE NEW AVENGERS from issue #16 onwards. This will reunite the Marvel character with writer Brian Michael Bendis, who wrote the acclaimed series from 2001 – 2006. Here’s a preview of the cover:
