While it’s tremendous to have Hammer Films back in our lives, it must be said there’s a lot of trepidation surrounding THE WOMAN IN BLACK. And it all revolves around a certain young actor by the name of Mr Radcliffe. Despite playing the lead role in 8 of the highest grossing flicks of all time, a tenure in the acclaimed play Equus, and a much publicised “drinking problem” (don’t snigger), Danny Rad just isn’t taken very seriously. Can he act? The Jury’s still out. Will THE WOMAN IN BLACK prove us all wrong? We hope so. Let’s all have a look at the newly released trailer and see what we think…

Wonderful trailer, genuinely haunting… but should we be alarmed that Radcliffe gets less screentime than those creepy-ass dolls? Hmmm.

Here’s the official synopsis from the Hammer folks:

“The story follows a young lawyer, Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe), who is ordered to travel to a remote village and sort out a recently deceased client’s papers. As he works alone in the client’s isolated house, Kipps begins to uncover tragic secrets, his unease growing when he glimpses a mysterious woman dressed only in black. Receiving only silence from the locals, Kipps is forced to uncover the true identity of the Woman in Black on his own, leading to a desperate race against time when he discovers her true intent.”

THE WOMAN IN BLACK is directed by James Watkins (he of the rather troubling 2008 hoodie horror EDEN LAKE), and is written by the excellent Jane Goldman (STARDUST, KICK-ASS). The movie hits cinemas worldwide in February 2012.
