Warren Beatty reeeally wants to do a follow-up to his oft-forgotten 1990 comicbook adaptation DICK TRACY.

Speaking about the long-mooted project at the recent Hero Complex Film Festival in Los Angeles, Beatty had this to share:

“I always think of making a movie like vomiting. I don’t like to vomit. But I get to a point sometimes where I think, ‘Okay, I better go ahead and do this and I’ll feel better.’ When I finally get around to making a movie, that’s why. I think I’ll feel better if I make this movie.”

Anybody else feeling a little queasy all of a sudden? More importantly, does anybody out there other than Beatty actually want another DICK TRACY movie? I’ll be honest, I haven’t revisited the movie since seeing it in cinemas 21 years ago, not through any particular dislike, but due to its ten year absence from European home video while rights issues were being cleared up (a case Beatty only just won last March.)

It’s easy to forget that the first movie was somewhat of a success upon release, and actually garnered seven Oscar nominations, winning three. But without the dreaded reboot treatment, it could prove too risky for studios to greenlight a tent-pole picture with Beatty in the lead.

Will Beatty get his wish? Or should we just have a whip-round and buy him some nausea meds?
