THE BOURNE IDENTITY and JUMPER director Doug Liman was linked a while back to a film adaptation of Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s sci-fi novel ALL YOU NEED IS KILL. A recent article from THR that dealt with Tom Cruise’s current box office clout mentions that the star is ‘in talks’ to take the lead in Doug Liman’s new film, the title of which is now WE MORTALS ARE. Could they be one and the same?

ALL YOU NEED IS KILL takes place in the future where an ongoing war is fought with invading aliens by soldiers who regenerate day after day after being killed in battle. On the 158th regeneration a soldier called Keiji (yes it’s Japanese) finds something different that could lead to his escape. The script has been described as ‘STARSHIP TROOPERS meets GROUNDHOG DAY’ and sounds interesting enough. The characters in the story are primarily teenagers though, but the hefty budget means that the producers are seeking an A-list star.

As previously reported, Tom Cruise is also shooting another sci-fi epic called HORIZONS (then known as OBLIVION) for TRON LEGACY director Joseph Kosinski early next year. Will he really want to cram in another effects heavy blockbuster so soon? Doug Liman has been off his game lately but try and remember just how good GO and THE BOURNE IDENTITY actually were, not to mention his debut film SWINGERS which introduced the world to Vince Vaughan and Jon Favreau. The less said about JUMPER the better…
