While not huge fans of GLEE here at Starburst, the news that creator Ryan Murphy is currently developing an adult horror show has admittedly peaked our interest (and he did create the once-great NIP/TUCK also, so he deserves a bit of slack I guess).

AMERICAN HORROR STORY tells the tale of a family on the verge of tearing apart (hubby’s not the most faithful of types) who have to move States in order to start again. If their lives weren’t complicated enough, their choice of new homes is not the smartest, as the house was once the site of multiple murders (I doubt that the estate agent revealed this to them first in all fairness). Oh, and it’s haunted. Natch.

Dylan McDermott (THE PRACTICE) and Connie Britton (2010’s A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake) star as the troubled husband and wife, with newcomer Taissa Farmiga as their teenage daughter. SIX FEET UNDER’S Francis Conroy plays their mysterious housekeeper – at least to most anyway, McDermott sees her as actress Alexandre Breckenridge (TRUE BLOOD), a significantly younger version of the character who’s somewhat of a temptress. Jessica Lange also stars as their new neighbour, who obviously has quite a bit to tell them about their new home’s history should she be invited over for tea.

Murphy has cited that the series takes inspiration from such horror classics as ROSEMARY’S BABY, THE SHINING and DON’T LOOK NOW – so that should give you a good idea as to where the story is coming from tonally.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY will debut Stateside this Halloween on FX. Here’s hoping a UK channel will follow suit shortly after.
