After director Darren Aronofsky (REQUIEM FOR A DREAM) sadly bailed on the gig earlier this year, many names have been banded about as potential replacements to helm the second solo Wolverine movie – Doug Liman (THE BOURNE IDENTITY); Antoine Fuqua (TRAINING DAY); Gavin O’ Connor (WARRIOR) all coming close.

Today comes the news that Fox has finally settled on their choice – James Mangold, director of such diverse fare as COP LAND; GIRL INTER

RUPTED; KATE & LEOPOLD (starring Jackman); WALK THE LINE; and last year’s little-seen Tom cruise vehicle KNIGHT AND DAY.

Let’s hope Fox learnt their lesson with the abysmal X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, and can deliver a movie fit for the character – a screenplay by THE USUAL SUSPECTS writer Christopher McQuarrie based on the mutant’s acclaimed Japanese story arc promises much potential.

THE WOLVERINE is scheduled to hit cinemas late 2012.
