Tolkien fans rejoice!

A new Google Chrome experiment is now allowing avid fans of THE LORD OF THE RINGS and THE HOBBIT to explore the realm in which it’s set. Currently you can fly over all the locations seen in THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY. Some of these locations can even be “walked” with greater variety expected in the near future. This technology is available on all kinds of devices, so a trip to Hobbiton during your morning commute would not be off the cards at all.

JRR Tolkien had a clear image of the world he created and included incredibly detailed maps of the entirety of Middle-earth in his work. Google are effectively making these maps completely interactive for fans to embark on adventures of their own with epic music thrown in for good measure.

While Google perfect their maps of Middle-earth, fans can get excited about THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG out December 13.
