“There can be only one.”

5 films and 2 TV shows later, it’s time they rethought that tagline methinks.

And here we go again – with news that RCR Media Group & Summit Entertainment have teamed up to rescue the long rumoured franchise reboot from development hell.

So far details are pretty thin on the ground, but we do know the screenplay has been penned by IRON MAN writers Art Marcum & Matt Holloway, and at one stage during its long development had FAST 5 Justin Lin attached to direct. While this might be a good choice considering the dude’s action chops, it’s also very optimistic that he’ll still be available – one would imagine he’ll have trouble fitting it into his increasingly uber busy schedule what with the recent announcement that he’s now in charge of the TERMINATOR franchise (and FAST 6 + 7 of course.)

The idea is to return the franchise’s credibility by going back to its Scottish roots (and pretending those contradictory sequels never existed!)

Summit are aiming for a 2012 release.
