Ben Stiller is set to team up with his REALITY BITES screenwriter Helen Childress for a new movie based of her spec script THE MOUNTAIN. What’s notable about this is that it’s a straight-up horror movie, a radical departure in genre for himself and his production company Red Hour Ben.

Little is known of the movie at this point, other than its premise is being likened in tone to Polanski’s ROSEMARY’S BABY and tells the tale of a young girl in the 1900’s who encounters a ‘mysterious object that forces her to examine the secrets of her past’. Bit vague.

Although Stiller has dabbled with dramatic roles in the past (see PERMANENT MIDNIGHT and the aforementioned REALITY BITES), we don’t expect the actor to appear in front of the camera on this one, but will choose to merely wield the megaphone instead. Given what they’re aiming for tonally it’s probably wise.
