British actress Julia Ormond has just signed to play Superman’s biological mother (and wife of Jor-El). Although both characters have limited screentime in the original movies (their planet did explode after all), it’s rumoured Snyder’s story will spend a lot more time on Krypton (which would explain the high profile casting).

In a last minute casting announcement (the flick starts shooting next month) the role of Supe’s papa Jor-El has gone to intense Aussie actor Russell Crowe. Is there an official Kryptonian accent? If so we might be in trouble…

Crowe joins Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Jonathan & Martha Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as Zod, Antje Traue as Faora, with STARDUST’s Henry Cavill rounding out the cast as Superman / Clark Kent himself.

Zack Snyder’s film will completely reboot the franchise, ignoring all previous entries and will purportedly be yet another origin story. Because nobody’s heard that before.

MAN OF STEEL arrives next summer. No word yet whether he’ll still be rocking the denim.
