They’ve been threatening a SHORT CIRCUIT reboot since 2009, but today comes the news that Dimension Films are finally pressing ahead and have hired director Tim Hill to helm.

What do you mean you’ve never heard of him? Tim Hill was the mastermind behind this year’s Easter smash-hit HOP. And lest we remind you: no Hill, no ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS franchise. Exactly. Bet you feel embarrassed now, don’t you.

Seriously though, I hope Hill’s previous output isn’t an indication on where they’re heading with this. SHORT CIRCUIT was great family fun back in the 80’s (and there’s even room in my heart for the sequel) and doesn’t need a total kid-friendly make over. The original had a certain edge (and I’m not just talking about the inappropriate racism *cough* Fisher Stevens *cough*), what with its complex musings on what it means to be human; the military; and… (damn it, I hate it when I write myself in to a corner)… stuff.
