UPDATE:

Well that didn’t take long! Just earlier today we ran the story below and pondered amongst ourselves who would play Christian Walker – well ponder no more, for Lost Boy Jason Patrick himself has now signed. Settle down, settle down – let’s not forget Patrick has contributed

to some amazing movies in the past (probably best to keep SPEED 2 on the down-low though) including the aforementioned LOST BOYS (classic!), NARC, and RUSH. Hell, he was even a high point in last year’s otherwise “meh” THE LOSERS. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt.

Truthfully, we’re hopeful this comes as good news, most of us here at Starburst are enthused with where FX are heading with this.

Here’s our POWERS coverage from earlier today…

————————————————————

It’s been rumoured for a while now that Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming’s acclaimed comic book series POWERS is being developed for TV by FX, but today comes the announcement the project is finally beginning to move forward with a projected start date and a new cast member…

British actress, the fabulous Lucy Punch (HOT FUZZ), has signed to play Deena Pilgrim, one half of the detective duo that specialize in homicide cases involving ‘Powers’ (their term for superheroes). (Don’t you think she kind of looks like an Oeming drawing? No, just me?)

Shooting starts later this summer in Chicago, from a Pilot script by Charles H. Eglee – a veteran of such genre shows as DARK ANGEL, DEXTER, and most recently THE WALKING DEAD. It will be directed by the equally prolific Michael Dinner (JUSTIFIED; SONS OF ANARCHY). Add to the mix the rich source of storylines to mine (POWERS started in 2000 and still runs today) and the fact the original creative team of Bendis and Oeming are fully on board as executive producers, and you have a show that is shaping up to be very promising indeed.

We called it a while ago, but with the success of AMC’s THE WALKING DEAD, TV networks are going to begin looking to comic books for inspiration just as the movie studios did years ago (and I’ve heard it’s going quite well for those guys!), the medium is far more suited to telling these kind of serialised stories.

The big question… which comic book series would you love to see given the TV treatment?

Lucy Punch a good choice? Who should play her partner, Christian Walker? Let us know with your comments below!
