A couple of months back a short film based on the popular videogame PORTAL caused a lot of buzz for its director Dan Trachtenberg. Now it seems that gamble has paid off as Trachtenberg is attached to a project at Universal called CRIME OF THE CENTURY.

The story is apparently a ‘high octane heist’ with a science fiction twist and may have something to do with time travel. The screenplay is written by Daniel Kunka (12 ROUNDS) and will be produced by Chris Morgan (FAST FIVE, WANTED).

It seems that the way to get noticed these days is to make a short film based on something that already exists somewhere in pop culture and when you do it, give the fans what they want. Seems to have worked out well for the director of the MORTAL KOMBAT: LEGACY series and now Trachtenberg has found himself thrust into the top of studios director wish lists. Hopefully this will come to fruition and won’t be another victim of the endless development cycle that has killed many a promising script and young filmmaker.
