This comes as a bit of a surprise considering the critical and relative Box Office failure of TRON: LEGACY, but it seems Disney are actually moving forward on a third entry in the franchise…

…with the announcement screenwriter David DiGilio has now officially been brought in to replace the in-demand LEGACY scribes Adam Horowitz & Adam Kitsis (who’s FABLES-like TV show ONCE UPON A TIME has just been picked up.) Considering where the last movie left off, this has much potential indeed…

When we’re likely to see the movie is another story entirely, but in the meantime fans can at least look forward to the previously announced TRON: UPRISING animated TV series, starring an eclectic voice-cast including: Elijah Wood (LOTR Trilogy); Mandy Moore (TANGLED); Paul Ruebens (aka Pee Wee Herman); and reprising his role as Tron, Bruce Boxleitner himself (gotta love that name, sounds like an action hero in his own right!) Here’s a sneak peek:

Pretty cool.

Expect TRON: UPRISING to hit screens in 2012. TRON 3… 2013 at the ‘verrrry’ earliest.

Should they go ahead with a third TRON movie or did LEGACY and Jeff Bridge’s creepy CGI noggin kill it for you? Let us know with your comments below!
