According to the Something Weird Video Facebook page, the label’s founder, Mike Vraney, passed away on Thursday, January 2, from lung cancer. He was 56.

Vraney founded the video company in 1990, starting with mailorder copies of obscure and cult films such as CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, and by some accounts released over 1600 films, including those by the likes of Herschel Gordon Lewis and Frank Henenlotter.

The company’s statement says that they “fully intend to honor Mike’s incredible legacy. Mike may be gone, but his remarkable achievements will live on.”

Our respects go to Vraney’s family.
