With the success of TRANSFORMERS and GI JOE, another toy franchise is headed to the big screen. Not CENTURIONS, not THUNDERCATS, no this time it’s MICRONAUTS…

The toyline for MICRONAUTS dates back to the 1970’s and were imported from Japan. They were 3.75 inch figures, vehicles and robots which connected to each other via their joints. A MICRONAUTS comic was also published by Marvel back in 1979. Not sure what the story was but Hasbro has made recent rumblings regarding bringing the toys back into shops.

This is not interesting to me apart from the fact that JJ Abrams’ production company Bad Robot is producing the film with a screenplay by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick who wrote ZOMBIELAND as well as the upcoming DEADPOOL and GI JOE 2.

In recent times Bad Robot has been a mark of quality with its productions in film and TV. Could this be the one that breaks their run of good luck? Or are the producers and screenwriters actually on to something here? More importantly who in the all important ‘key demographic’ even knows what a Micronaut is?
