Michael Ansara has passed away at the age of 91. Ansara was known to many science fiction fans as Kang the Klingon in the episode of Star Trek, ‘Dove of the Dove’, Qarlo Clogregnny in ‘Soldier’ from the original Outer Limits, the evil Kane in the Buck Rogers TV show from the late seventies and the voice of Mr. Freeze in Batman: The Animated Series.

Born in a small village in Syria, Mr. Ansara came to the United States with his American parents at the age of two where he grew up briefly in New England before his family moved to California.

Focusing on becoming a doctor, he entered Los Angeles City College where he became interested in the theater arts department.

He soon joined the famous Pasadena Playhouse, where his fellow students included Charles Bronson, Carolyn Jones and Aaron Spelling.

His diligent work led him to perform in several stage plays and minor roles in television shows that eventually landed him the lead as Cochise in the western television series, Broken Arrow where he met his future wife, Barbara Eden of I Dream of Jeanie fame.

At 6’3” with a deep, authoritative voice, he was mostly cast as villains, but in real life his charming personality and wonderful smile would win everyone over.

His incredible legacy featured him in such TV shows as The Untouchables, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Rifleman, Tales of Wells Fargo, Rawhide, and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. along with some of his featured film roles in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (co-starring with his wife), Julius Caesar, Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy, The Lone Ranger (1956), and Sol Madrid and the Manitou.

We at Starburst send our heartfelt condolences to his friends and family.

“Were all human. We have our foibles, we’ve made mistakes and yet there is still greatness.” – Michael Ansara
