Marvel Studios are clearly banking on next year’s THE AVENGERS to do big-business (and judging by the success of the trailer that hit last week, it’s a pretty safe bet) as they’ve now announced that the sequel is already a go picture!

Speaking at the recent New York Comic-Con, Marvel Studios’ big-cheese Kevin Feige revealed the Avengers will re-assemble sometime in 2014, but not before IRON MAN 3 kicks off what he’s calling “the second phase of THE AVENGERS initiative” on May 13th 2013. This will be followed by THOR 2 in November, and CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 shortly after.

There’s still no mention of the other rumoured Marvel properties however, with neither DOCTOR STRANGE or the long-promised ANT MAN getting a mention. What gives, guys?

In other Marvel bits n’ pieces, it has now been confirmed that director Patty Jenkins (MONSTER) has indeed officially signed to helm THOR 2, while the excellent Shane Black (KISS KISS BANG BANG) is currently hard at work shaping the IRON MAN 3 screenplay in preparation for taking over from where Jon Favreau left off.
